Jessica Wynne Lockhart
Jessica Wynne Lockhart is an award-winning travel journalist best known for her adventure and ethical travel writing. Her assignments have ranged from heli-fishing in the Australian outback for The Toronto Star to losing toenails in New Zealand's mountains for Outside.
A regional specialist in Aotearoa New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific, Jess is Lonely Planet's Destination Editor for Oceania and a contributor to Lonely Planet's Best in Travel 2027. She has co-authored several guidebooks and contributed to anthologies.
She loves a challenge, especially making complex subjects relevant, relatable and readable. Alongside travel, she writes about science, education, health and personal finance for editorial clients, not-for-profits and brands. Her favourite stories sit where science, conservation and tourism meet.
In 2024, Jess was named Most Outstanding Consumer Travel Journalist at the Australian Travel Industry Association awards. She's a two-time gold medallist in the Lowell Thomas Journalism Awards, and her work has also been recognised by TMAC, ASTW, SATW and the Ontario Press Council.
